Johannesburg Region - Recycling Project

Recycling Project

The Kruger National Park's (KNP's) Managing Executive, Abe Sibiya received a donation of 150 baboon-proof stainless steel dustbins from Nampak as represented by SANParks Honorary Rangers.

These baboon-proof stainless steel dustbins are an improvement on the 182 plastic bins which were donated in 2006 by the Nampak through the Johannesburg Region of SANParks Honorary Rangers. Compared to the previous dustbins, the current stainless steel dustbins are not only baboon-proof but child and elderly people friendly as compared to the previous ones which were heavy for children and elderly people. The new dustbins also encourage separation of rubbish at source which is the best practice in the recycling industry today. In other words the current dustbins have two components, one for recyclable material and the other component for non-recyclable material and they are indicated as such.

The Honorary Rangers, raised these 150 recycling stainless steel bins which are meant to last longer and cost Nampak R 700 000. Nampak's Executive Director, Fezile Tshiqi said that if there is still a need for more bins, Nampak will continue funding the initiative as they are a company which wants to remain involved in the project and Conservation
