Captured Experiences book

From majestic black-manned lions, cheeky suricates (meerkat) and delicate desert flowers to the roaring Augrabies Falls, the spectrum of images displayed in this photographic compilation would quite likely take a single photographer a lifetime to gather.

The Arid Parks Captured Experiences book relates the experiences of visitors to the parks (many of whom happen to be extraordinary photographers), through the telling of their own stories by way of photographs and accompanying prose. Besides the portraits of the fauna; the plant life in the book, such as the delicate Namaqua daisies and majestic Richtersveld quiver trees, is inspiring in its beauty - and the macro photography of reptiles and insects draws you in to a world so often forgotten.

The Arid Parks Captured Experiences book is the product of the Captured Experiences photographic competition, a SANParks initiative to promote the arid South African National Parks. The competition, which ran in four rounds from January 2010 to January 2011, saw a panel of five judges carefully sift through nearly 10 000 entries. All of the winning photos have been published in this book, along with other select images from the competition.
