6th Mokala MTB Classic
The Mokala MTB Classic is held annually in Mokala National Park, south of Kimberley. It is hosted by the Diamantveld Region of SANParks Honorary Rangers in the beautiful Mokala National Park. The main aim for this event is to introduce Mokala to the public so they can appreciate the beauty of nature. The whole race is in Mokala and many cyclists were excited about all the game they saw. Mokala was fully booked and the atmosphere was amazing and very relaxed because it is not a timed official event. All funds raised go to anti-poaching projects. A hand over items worth about R20 000 to Johan de Klerk, park manager of Mokala, was made by members of the K9 Watchdog National Project. One of the dogs gave a short performance to show what he can do. Everyone enjoyed the show. We were fortunate to have members of ER24 on hand for medical assistance. There were just a few small injuries, nothing serious. There were three distances: 40 and 80 km on Saturday and 35 km on Sunday. 89 cyclists entered the races. During the prize giving on Saturday every rider got a meal as well as a braai pack for the evening. We thank all our sponsors and the Park management for their contributions.
Last but definitely not least, thanks to the cyclists for their participation. Hope to see you all next year.
