South African National Parks together with the SANParks Honorary Rangers hosted the first-ever, Marakele MTB Challenge on Saturday 25 May 2024 at the scenic Marakele National Park outside Thabazimbi in Limpopo. Marakele National Park is a Big 5 park.
We celebrate 60 years of making a difference for conservation. For 60 years, we’ve been helping our National Parks preserve South Africa’s natural heritage for the benefit of future generations. We are the SANParks Honorary Rangers, and we do it out of love.
The SANParks Honorary Rangers: Free State Region held its 9th annual Mokala Bush Concert in Mokala National Park over the weekend of 19 to 21 April 2024.
The concert, born in 2016 after a member of the region came up with the unique idea and brainstormed the concept with the region and equally enthusiastic staff members at Mokala, again was a huge success.
The SANParks Honorary Rangers and some of the Kruger National Park Management were fortunate to hear world renowned primatologist, anthropologist and conservationist, Dr Jane Goodall during her recent trip to South Africa. Her visit to Skukuza was arranged by the Lowveld Region of the SANParks Honorary Rangers.
South African National Parks (SANParks) congratulates the SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) on their 2023 Integrated Report. The 2023 Integrated Report showcases the amazing work of the volunteer members and the projects which have made a tangible difference in the national parks. This year is also the 60th anniversary of the SHR’s.
As learners head back to school after the summer holiday, our Junior Honorary Rangers get ready for the 2024 program of courses, outings and events to learn about conservation and the environment. Registration days are being held at various locations across the country and youngsters are invited to join a program in their area.
The SANParks Honorary Rangers, the official volunteer organisation for South African National Parks (SANParks), has been selected as one of the Comrades Marathon Association’s (CMA’s) six official charities for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Comrades Marathons, as part of their Amabeadibeadi Charity Drive.
Thanks to generous sponsorship from Coca Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) for the Powerade Marakele Marathon, the SANParks Honorary Rangers commissioned the building of a pool and jungle gym in the Bontle camping ground in the Marakele National Park.
The Kruger Trail recently joined hands with the Kruger Ranger Corps and donated two hundred and thirty data management devices to the value of one million rands. This will provide every Ranger deployment working in the bush, as well as the Airwing Pilots and conservation staff, with a device loaded with the necessary software to accurately log and geo-locate key conservation and law enforcement information across all 22 Sections of Kruger NP.
