Regional meetings:
We meet on the third Monday of every month (except in November & December), at 18:30, at the Morningside Country Club in Rivonia.
Johannesburg Region
The Johannesburg region is active in projects through the Public Education & Awareness Program. We participate in the Getaway Show and Beeld show, displaying artefacts and educational posters, as well as selling branded items such as T-Shirts, caps, bags and beaded bracelets. HR members also host educational talks at various schools to create awareness of conservation of our environment.
An annual Golf Day at Royal Johannesburg, organized and manned by Johannesburg HR’s, with sponsored holes and 4-ball teams, raises funds for SANParks conservation projects.
Bush Camps are hosted by the Johannesburg team at Sand River Bush Camp and Nyarhi Rustic Bush Camp (Kruger National Park) and Morukure Rustic Bush Camp (Marekele National Park). The camps are done throughout the year for three nights and four days and vary from fully catered to self catering These camps offer guests a personal experience in the bush, with guided bush walks and Sunset drives conducted by our highly qualified rangers.
We hold an annual unique birding event to Ndumo Game Reserve every October. Ndumo is a premium birding hotspot with many “specials” to be found there.
All profits from fundraising are channeled back into SANParks projects.
Johannesburg Honorary Rangers have been supporting the K9 Project Watchdog since its inception. Johannesburg members volunteer their services to the K9 unit, cleaning kennels, grooming dogs and other general maintenance as required in the camp.
Johannesburg region members are actively involved in ‘snare patrols’. Members walk in the bush, searching for and removing any snares. It is a hard days work, with covering distances of up to 10 km. Whatever is found is removed and carried back to base. Members also assist in bush clearing of invasive plant species.
