Every 3rd Saturday of the month (January to November)
West Coast Region
Members: Currently 31, of which six are applicants. Supports the West Coast National Park, primarily via annual fundraising events such as:
1- Wader Bash – A birding event held during February before the migrant waders have returned to their breeding grounds. The event is held entirely in the WCNP and most overnight accommodation is provided in the historic Geelbek stables. (waderbash2019.wcnp@gmail.com)
2 – LCE Weskus Marathon – Held in conjunction with the Langebaan running club, Strandlopers, under the auspices of the WP Athletics Association. The event is normally a qualifier for the Two Oceans ultra-marathon. A distinct characteristic of this race is that no cars are allowed inside the Park during the race. Runners can enjoy the beauty of the West Coast fynbos, the sea and the lagoon while they tackle the undulating route and close to the end the scary Black Mamba Hill, before they finish on the green lawn of the LCE golf driving range. There are also a half marathon – which takes the runners via a beautiful part of Langebaan towards the Park, take a circular route inside the Park and then via Black Mamba Hill on their way back to LCE. The 10km and 5km fun run routes are run mostly within the boundaries of the beautiful golf estate, with all four races finishing at the driving range. (www.weskusmarathon.co.za)
