West Rand Region
The Region currently has 70 Honorary Rangers, 16 Applicant members and 24 Junior Honorary Ranger members. Members from the Region serve on the National Executive Committee, the National Training Committee, the K9 Watchdog Project and the Marakele Forum.
All SANParks, Veterinary Wildlife Services and Scientific Services are supported through the Wish List system. Members undertake duties at many of the Parks, but mainly Kruger and Marakele National Parks because of their proximity to Johannesburg. The duties at Kruger National Park include road patrols, gate and camp duties, assistance at the Elephant Hall, participation in tree surveys and snare removal and hacking (ISEG) weekends. At Marakele members clear the tourist roads of debris and encroaching vegetation, clean storm water drains and remove old farm fences and they recently participated in manning water-points at the Marakele Marathon.
Regional activities include annual birding weekends in the Kruger National Park when birders are hosted at fifteen venues in the Park, bird (LBJ and raptor) ID courses, an annual golf day, hosting stands at the International Ranger Day event, at the BirdLife Africa Bird Fair and at Yebo Gogga and hosting guests at the Sand River Bush Camp, Nyarhi Rustic Camp and Loffiesdraai Bush Camp.
