Desert Dash with a Purpose
Ellie Brümmer, a member of SANParks Honorary Rangers, Magalies region, has embarked on a mission to raise awareness and funding for SHR.
She has called it “Desert Dash with a Purpose” in preparation for her solo attempt to cross the Namib Desert.
This solo challenge entails crossing the oldest desert in the world – the Namib – from Windhoek to Swakopmund, unsupported. This is a total distance of 373km’s within 24 hours on a mountain bike. The challenge will happen on 6-7 December 2019 at the Nedbank Desert Dash starting at 14h00 and finishing 24 hours later.
In her own words: “I decided to launch this fund-raising initiative because of my passion for mountain biking, the environment – and my wish to make a difference to our National Heritage and National Parks. In the run-up to the Nedbank Desert Dash 2019, I appeal to all people passionate about making a difference to pledge an amount per each of the 373km’s to support my “Desert Dash with a Purpose”.
All funds raised are utilised by the SANParks Honorary Rangers to support conservation in our national parks.
