The SANParks Honorary Rangers handed over a specialised dog harness to the K9 Unit in the Table Mountain National Park to facilitate visitor safety in the park.
Highly trained dogs are used to patrol the park to prevent attacks on hikers and other visitors. The harness will allow a K9 Unit dog to be lowered from a helicopter onto the mountain, without the chopper having to land.
Alistair Burt, chairperson of the SANParks Honorary Rangers, Johannesburg Region, handed over the harness to Mr Bradley Wana of the Table Mountain National Park’s Visitor Safety Unit on Saturday 4 May 2019. Members of the Table Mountain and Pretoria Regions of the SANParks Honorary Rangers facilitated the delivery and handover of the harness.
The harness was generously donated to the SANPArks Honorary Rangers by a Germany-based animal welfare organisation, Airliner 4 Animals.
