Following her presentation, Dr Goodall answered questions from the audience. She then visited the rhino boma at Skukuza where SANParks veterinarian, Guy Hausler gave an interesting talk about the rescue of orphaned rhinos. Dr Goodall’s visit also included a visit to the Mdluli community along the western boundary of the KNP. Chris Schalkwyk, managing executive of Mdluli Safari Lodge arranged a meeting with community leaders to discuss challenges those communities are facing and how the SHRs in collaboration with the ‘Roots and Shoots’ programme could assist. Dr Jane Goodall’s visit to the Lowveld Region inspired volunteers and reinforced the importance of conservation efforts. Her legacy and contributions continue to inspire individuals worldwide to work towards a sustainable future for our planet and its precious inhabitants.
