Mountain bikes for the marine unit In November 2023, we were very pleased to be able to hand over three mountain bicycles, helmets and spares to the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Marine Rangers to assist with their patrols and anti-poaching work along the coastline. By December, these bikes had already been used in the successful apprehension of a crayfish poacher. Two of these mountain bikes were secured through a donation from Olympic Cycles. “This donation came at the right time when we’re faced with diverse challenges in the park. I am truly grateful for this initiative of introducing mountain bicycles in the park. Thank you very much to the SHR for securing this donation, which will facilitate the operations of the Marine Unit. The spares and service plan are a very useful addition too. Lastly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Olympic Cycles for this wonderful initiative”, concluded Megan Taplin – SANParks: Table Mountain National Park Manager. The Table Mountain Region of the SHR have become actively involved with the TMNP Marine Unit and have joined this unit on patrols and beach clean-up exercises. The team has also assisted the Marine Unit with building maintenance and gardening at the unit offices in Kommetjie. Handover of mountain bikes. Rangers test-ride their bikes.
