The Bakoor Hiking Trail, West Coast National Park The SANParks Honorary Rangers, West Coast Region has embarked on a project to assist SANParks with improving infrastructure and services that can enhance visitor experience in the West Coast National Park. To minimise disturbance, upgrades and expansion of existing hiking trails has been prioritised. Attractions and features such as scenery, fauna, flora, heritage, topography and safety are also considered. The existing Bakoor Trail was selected as a pilot project to set a standard for all upgrades to follow. The existing trail was extended to become a circular route. The upgraded Bakoor Trail was inaugurated on 18 August 2023. Accompanying interpretation boards are in the design phase. Upgrades to the Strandveld, Dunes and Geelbek hiking trails are planned for 2024. Cycling trails have also been earmarked for upgrades.
