Integrated Report 2024

The information centre gets a new roof. Visitors to the Ebb-and-Flow Rest Camp are mostly holidaymakers. The information centre is strategically placed at the reception area. The old thatch roof needed replacing but at great cost. Contact Paola Cenizo paola.cenizo0707@gmail.com Karen Miller kirkleyvale@gmail.com Members of the West Rand and Wilderness Regions decided to collaborate on the wish list item to revamp the information centre at Ebb-andFlow Rest Camp. It was agreed that members of the Wilderness Region would do the physical work, while the West Rand Region paid for the material costs. The thatch roof was replaced with Colorplus® AZ200 roofing, one of the most environmentally friendly options. This material requires less maintenance and poses a reduced fire hazard. Updated information boards, comprising 12 large panels, were installed. These present information on the geology, ecology, topography and attractions of the area. Specific information is provided on the ecology of the Touws River Estuary and the geomorphology, trees, hiking trails, bird hides, cycling routes and common birds of the area. The display includes a large panoramic map. The revamped information centre provides interesting and useful information that aims to enhance visitors’ experience. 136 SANParks Honorary Rangers 2024 REVAMPING EBB-ANDFLOW’S INFORMATION CENTRE Members’ activities continued
