It was agreed that members of the Wilderness Region would do the physical work, while the West Rand Region paid for the material costs. The thatch roof was replaced with Colorplus® AZ200 roofing, one of the most environmentally friendly options. This material requires less maintenance and poses a reduced fire hazard. Updated information boards, comprising 12 large panels, were installed. These present information on the geology, ecology, topography and attractions of the area. Specific information is provided on the ecology of the Touws River Estuary and the geomorphology, trees, hiking trails, bird hides, cycling routes and common birds of the area. The display includes a large panoramic map.
