Ribbok Trail Hiking Hut Upgrades Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Region have been upgrading the Ribbok Trail Hiking Hut in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. A roof has been constructed over the braai area to provide shelter during rainstorms in summer. Additional guttering and downpipes have been installed. The JoJo tank has been fitted with a new stopcock and water filtration system, and a fence has been erected to keep horses and zebras out of the braai area. Eight new mattresses have also been supplied for the hut. Highlands Mountain Retreat and Glen Reenen Rest Camp Members of the Free State Region devoted many hours to maintenance and upgrades in the park. Wooden furniture was sanded and varnished, lighting was installed, braais were repaired and gardens were tidied. New tables and chairs were purchased for the chalets and new signposts were purchased and installed along hiking routes. Shrubs (Rhamnus prinoides) were planted in the camp site to enhance privacy for campers. At the Wilgenhof Educational Centre, the gardens were tidied, and gardening equipment was donated. At the Golden Gate Hotel, carpets were cleaned and new upholstery was donated.
