Support for the Tankwa Karoo National Park Members of the Boland Region are very active in the Tankwa Karoo National Park. They host an annual birding weekend which raises funds for conservation in the park. Member duties include, inter alia, the removal of old farm fencing in the park. Renovation and repurposing of the outbuildings at the Platfontein complex has resumed. This camp will accommodate schoolchildren from neighbouring communities. The region has finalised the provision of a satellite internet service for the Tankwa Karoo National Park. The improved bandwidth and reliability of the internet connection at reception (even after hours) has improved visitor experience. Funding for the first two years of the project was made possible by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (under whom the SKA telescope resides) who subsidised 50% of the costs.
