Taking care of Mountain Zebra National Park Members of the Mountain Zebra Region participated in a work party to do maintenance, and repair work at the Mountain Zebra National Park. They planted additional trees, and placed wire mesh around existing tree trunks to protect them from porcupines. Porcupines feed on the bark, threatening the survival of trees. The gardens at the entrance gate and the reception were tidied, and additional plants were planted. A burst water pipe was repaired in the camping area, and a dead tree was removed as it was a safety concern for campers. An additional work party saw the removal of garden refuse, and tidying of gardens by cutting back trees and shrubs. The Shimuwini maintenance project was completed by members of Vaal Triangle Region in response to a wish list request from the Kruger National Park. It included woodwork repair and preservation at the pool area and bird hide. This followed on from repairs to the braai lapa in 2022. The pool lapa woodwork and fence was repaired and painted with wood preservative. A support beam in the roof structure was also replaced. The bird hide required wood preservation and extra floor supports. Andries Mans, Mogapi Letebele, David Lawrenz, and Louis Haarhoff were thanked by the Hospitality Services Manager at Shimuwini Bush Camp. Further maintenance is planned for 2024.
