A strategic forum, comprising representatives from the SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) Executive Committee (Exco) and Board and the SANParks Exco, was established to expand the support provided by the SHR into the work streams established in the recently signed Collaboration Agreement (signed September 2024). Each work stream plan will be an addendum to the new agreement. The current wish list process will represent one of these addenda. The wish list process has been in place for many years and provides a platform for the delivery of priority items to SANParks, and the approval of projects and duties to be performed by members. Only items, projects and duties approved as per the wish lists may be fulfilled by the SHR. The SHR follows an extensive process in compiling the various wish lists during the last quarter of the financial year. These wish lists are approved by the Joint Liaison Committee (JLC), an operational structure comprising SHR and SANParks representatives, tasked to oversee the management of the wish lists. Urgent items and projects that are not included and approved with the annual wish lists, are submitted to the JLC on an ad hoc basis for approval. A review of the fulfilment of wish list items by our members takes place during these meetings. Handover of wish list items to SANParks is carefully managed and controlled. We capture all items handed over on the Repsly app, which records details such as receipt of the asset, signatures, photos, geographic location, date and SANParks asset register number. The reports from Repsly are reconciled against the SANParks asset register and the SHR general ledger.
