Tourism: Assist with tourism activities that provide meaningful and enriched experiences to visitors and promote responsible tourism in national parks by creating destinations for nature-based tourism in a manner that is not harmful to the environment while experiencing the beauty and diversity of national parks during a pleasant and informative stay. This function is currently fulfilled through the wish list process. Environmental awareness: Creating a greater awareness of the beauty of national parks and the role national parks play in protecting the environment. Encourage ongoing learning and understanding of national parks, including the understanding of causeand-effect relationships between the quality of the environment and human behaviour, and a sense of responsibility for protecting national parks among visitors, employees, local communities, the youth and school pupils. Skills transfer and development in the workplace: Expanding our current member skills development to skills development for SANParks employees. The SHR and SANParks will continue collaborating to further identify and clarify support opportunities and determine new work stream processes to provide the above services. Operations: Focus on achieving ongoing service excellence in rendering support services and performing duties in national parks as and when required to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to internal and external customers, including visitors to national parks. This function is currently fulfilled through the wish list process. Fundraising: Fundraising and procurement of goods and equipment, where identified for specific projects, with the focus on the process of seeking and gathering voluntary financial contributions on behalf of and in the interest of SANParks through several projects, events and initiatives to ensure the effective and efficient management of national parks.
