The Exco comprises three paid employees, two in finance (Treasurer and General Manager: Finance) and the General Manager: Administration. The remaining Exco portfolios are filled by volunteers and include the Chief Executive, Operations Manager: North, Operations Manager: South, Operations Manager: National Projects, General Manager: Information and Technology, General Manager: Legal and General Manager: Marketing and Public Relations, Chief Sustainability Officer, General Manager: Business Development and General Manager: Compliance and Risk. Exco depends on constant communication and constructive debate with the Chairpersons Committee and, to this end invites a Chairpersons Committee representative to attend monthly Exco meetings to ensure transparent and open communication. The Chairpersons Committee reciprocates by having Board and Exco members present at bi-monthly meetings on strategic and operational matters. All national parks belong to a cluster, comprising relevant regions, which coordinates the SHR’s efforts to fulfil project and duty wish list items agreed to and prioritised by SANParks. Collaboration and improved communication among the relevant regions have increased opportunities for member participation and delivery to national parks. During 2023, an advisory legal panel under the auspices of the General Manager: Legal was established. This panel comprises SHR members who have legal qualifications and experience in their professional lives (active and/or retired) as well as SHR members who have a Human Resources background. Having the benefit of legal expertise and experience from within the SHR membership serves the SHR organisation well as a whole.
