Loffiesdraai Bush Camp. Loffiesdraai Bush Camp The Loffiesdraai Bush Camp is situated in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park, about 80 km northwest of Nossob Rest Camp. Established in 2018, it is operated by the SHR as a fundraising initiative to support the park’s needs. Fifteen bush camps are hosted each year by nine participating regions. The camp offers a highly sought after experience and camps are filled well in advance. Waiting list bookings are available. The bush camp offers guests a five-night self-drive and fully catered Kalahari experience starting on a Sunday at Twee Rivieren Rest Camp. The first and fifth nights are spent at KijKij in the south of the park and the remaining three nights at the iconic Loffiesdraai (which is not accessible to the public). The camp includes a visit to Unions End where the borders of the RSA, Namibia and Botswana meet and a sundowner at Karub Pan where the quiet of the Kalahari at sunset can be experienced. Both camps are unfenced and overlook waterholes which are regularly visited by a variety of wildlife, including predators Loffiesdraai was originally built as a base for research and named after Prof. Fritz Eloff of Pretoria University (and a former Chairperson of the National Parks Board) in honour of his research on the Kalahari lions. In addition to fundraising, the camp provides a venue for interactive guided activities and educational experiences for specialist groups. Since its inception in 2018, more than R 1 200 000 has been raised for the purchase of much needed equipment for the park. During 2023/2024, an amount of R 273 000,00 was allocated to the purchase of equipment listed on the park’s wish list. The Steering Committee has also invested funds into the upgrade of camp facilities to enhance the experience of guests. All infrastructure becomes the property of SANParks.
