Kruger Rustic Bush Camp (Nyarhi) As the name ‘Nyarhi’ (meaning buffalo) suggests, this bush camp gives visitors the opportunity to experience camping in an unfenced rustic camp in the heart of the Kruger National Park’s Big 5 country. The Nyarhi Rustic Bush Camp is situated approximately 15 km west of the Mopani Rest Camp in the north of the park. Bush Camp experience at Nyarhi. Nyarhi is considered a ‘rustic’ bush camp experience. Guests must bring their own camping equipment, food, water, lighting, drinks and equipment. Facilities include two Enviro Loos, two shower enclosures and a braai area. Hosted by a small team of SHR, guests are treated to morning and afternoon bush walks with experienced field guides. The 2023/2024 financial year was a great success for the Nyarhi Rustic Bush Camp, and a profit of just over half a million rand was made. The project is supported by many new and repeat guests. A total of 41 camps were hosted by the 14 regions that participate in the project. Members of Bushveld Region participated in a maintenance work party in February. Torrential storms and strong winds had caused significant damage which needed to be repaired. Storm debris was cleared, and a new French drain was installed. The shower drainage system was also upgraded to enhance visitor comfort. After extensive maintenance at Frasersrus water hole, a constant supply of water to the reservoir and at least one of the troughs has been achieved. This has had a huge impact on sightings around the camp, much to the delight of guests. The project continues to grow into a firm ‘bucket list’ experience for Kruger-lovers. The SHR teams are thanked for their contribution. Contact Jenny Bell jenbellshr@gmail.com SANParks Honorary Rangers 2024 92 Members’ activities continued BUSH CAMPS NATIONAL PROJECT continued
