LCE Weskus Marathon
The SANParks Honorary Rangers: West Coast Region recently received a cheque for R100 000 from the main sponsor of the LCE Weskus Marathon, Langebaan Country Estate. The marathon – organised by Langebaan Strandlopers in association with the SHRs – was held on March 23, with a record number of 4 660 entries for the four races (42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km and a 5 km fun run/walk).
This event – one of the West Coast SHR’s biggest fundraising events – is considered as one of South Africa’s best running events. The shorter events start and end at the estate, while the marathon runners are transported by buses to Tsaarsbank in the WCNP.
The winding routes of both the marathon and half marathon run mostly through the beautiful WCNP all along the Langebaan Lagoon. With no cars allowed inside the Park during the event, this provides a perfect tranquil atmosphere in which to run a long distance road race.
LCE became the title sponsor in 2013, when the marathon first counted as a qualifier for the Two Oceans Marathon.
