Lowveld Region upgrading of the Rhino Trail.
Over the past few months a group of SHR Lowveld Region have been busy upgrading the Rhino Trail. This trail runs approx. 3,2Km inside Berg en Dal camp along the perimeter fence. This is the first of its kind with the first 800m accessible to the visually impaired with 26 Braille boards. These boards give a description of the Big 5, Small 5, Smallest 5, The Big 6 Birds, The big 5 Trees as well as some interesting facts on Fauna and Flora. In the near future braille tree tags will also be added.
Directional Boards along the trail in the form of Black Rhino resin castings, Rhino spoor tiles as well as painted Rhino spoor on the roads give clear direction throughout the trail.
This is a trail that can be enjoyed by both old and young with lots of new exciting plans still in store such as a child education section, namely the Riddle corner.
To make it as safe and enjoyable as possible the latest addition has been the bridge that has recently been completed and installed. This just adds that little extra to the trail.
The ultimate goal is to create a wheelchair friendly section making it another first.
This has all been made possible by our ever generous sponsors and a team of dedicated Honorary Rangers. The latest addition of the bridge was only achievable by the generous donation from Jos Badenhorst on behalf of MTO Forestry and Michael Canadas for the Bronze Rhino Bust.
