Work in Progress to restore Letaba Camp
The project was divided into two teams:
The team headed by Bushveld Region, responsible for the cleaning of the huts and the swimming pool.
The Water Project team responsible for the cutting and removal of trees and flood debris, scraping and removing of sand from all roads and walkways and the filling of holes, grass cutting and retrieval of all bricks that had been washed away by the current.
All flood debris was removed. A total of 21 truckloads of debris was removed and dumped.
The camping area has been totally cleared.
Blocks D, F, G and the swimming pool area has been cleared.
An estimated 23 tons of sand was removed from the swimming pool, by hand.
All roads have been scraped of sand. Sand has been removed from hut and pool areas and many holes filled.
Grass has been cut in the entire hut areas.
All washaway bricks have been retrieved from the hut areas and stacked on the riverfront walkway.
16 Huts in the D circle were cleaned.
The swimming pool changerooms and toilets have been cleaned.
SANParks’ staff are attending to the cleaning of the remaining units.
