Karoo Vulture Safe Zone

Historically vultures ranged throughout much of South Africa. Today, populations have dwindled by up to 80% in some areas, including the central Karoo. This is particularly evident for the Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres) which was formally widespread across the Karoo but is currently listed as Endangered both regionally and globally.

Donation to Addo Elephant National Park

The SANParks Honorary Rangers, Addo region wishes to thank MSD  Animal Health in Port Elizabeth for the generous donation of a year's supply of Bravecto Chew tablets to control ticks and lice on all five of our lovable K-9 dogs at Addo.


The SANParks Honorary Rangers’ Project Embrace was recently awarded the second runner-up award in the category “Rhino Conservation Supporter Award” at the Rhino Conservation Awards. The award was presented at a Gala Dinner held on 21 July 2019 at Montecasino in Johannesburg.

World Ranger Day

Today, on #World Ranger Day, we honour our rangers for their bravery, dedication and commitment to protect our natural heritage, and we commemorate those killed or injured in the line of duty.

Lowveld Region upgrading of the Rhino Trail

Over the past few months a group of SHR Lowveld Region have been busy upgrading the Rhino Trail.  This trail runs approx. 3,2Km inside Berg en Dal camp along the perimeter fence.  This is the first of its kind with the first 800m accessible to the visually impaired with 26 Braille boards.  These boards give a description of the Big 5, Small 5, Smallest 5, The Big 6 Birds, The big 5 Trees as well as some interesting facts on Fauna and Flora. In the near future braille tree tags will also be added.

Sunset Serenade in Kruger N. P.

The Conservation Services National Project of the SANParks Honorary Rangers recently held it's annual  long weekend of classical music performed by an ensemble of musicians at the Mopani Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park. In 2019, we  celebrated 20 years of music and loyal support for the Sunset Serenade and SANParks Honorary Rangers.

6th Mokala MTB Classic

The Mokala MTB Classic is held annually in Mokala National Park, south of Kimberley. It is hosted by the Diamantveld Region of SANParks Honorary Rangers in the beautiful Mokala National Park. The main aim for this event is to introduce Mokala to the public so they can appreciate the beauty of nature.

Harness for Table Mountain N.P. K9 Dogs

The SANParks Honorary Rangers handed over a specialised dog harness to the K9 Unit in the Table Mountain National Park to facilitate visitor safety in the park.

LCE Weskus Marathon

The SANParks Honorary Rangers: West Coast Region recently received a cheque for R100 000 from the main sponsor of the LCE Weskus Marathon, Langebaan Country Estate.

Marakele Environmental Education Centre gets a new Lecture Room

Teaching youngsters about our natural heritage and its conservation is important to SANParks. The Marakele National Park’s Thutong Environmental Education Centre plays host to schoolchildren and youth groups, particularly those from local communities and those participating in SANParks’ Kids in Parks educational initiative.
